A couple of weeks ago, I went to my first ever author book sign event for Laurie Halse Anderson's 2014 new release - The Impossible Knife of Memory. It was super cool and super exciting! Since I already have that book on kindle, I bought some of her older books instead (really though, I should have just gotten a hardcover of that same book again!) Both SPEAK and WINTERGIRLS are quite influential in the realistic fiction domain. In fact, Laurie Halse Anderson has always been known for tackling hard topics in her books. I'm really curious to see how she depicts her characters' struggles and how deep she can connect with me along the way!

The first thing you should know is that I absolutely loved MIND GAMES. And then here comes the second thing, I hated PERFECT LIES. Ha.

Never has a sequel disappointed me as much as PERFECT LIES did. When I read MIND GAMES, I was thoroughly intrigued by White's slightly peculiar writing style and the premise of evil organizations controlling teenage girls who have psychic abilities. Most of all, I adored the dual sister protagonists - Fia and Annie. The only issue I had then was that the worldbuilding was rather weak. But hey, that's what a sequel is for right? More in-depth plot/character developments, more dramatic confrontations, and more mind-boggling conspiracies. The answer is NO!

Fairy tale retellings are without any doubt my number one soft spot when it comes to reading. Regardless of how well I know about the original fairy tale, I'm always easily entranced by the creativity and imagination that shined through each and every one of the newly-reinvented/reimagined stories. Except, perhaps, when such things do not exist at all in a book. I really wish I can leave some better parting words to SISTERS RED, but in the end, this is a fairy tale retelling that lacks everything.

It was almost four month ago when I read the novella Poison Dance by Livia Blackburne for her upcoming Midnight Thief series. And since then, I have only wished for time to pass faster. Despite the short length, Poison Dance is a story all high fantasy fans will appreciate (you can find my review here). I was completely mesmerized by the world Blackburne created and her characters were nothing short of impressive. It lures you in and before you know it you are already determined to follow this story to the end.

Though regardless of the origin of Howard's inspirations, Splintered can sure hold its own place among YA literatures. Its rich and exquisite scenery, puzzling yet absorbing plot, along with those superbly-done characters, altogether combined into this elaborate visual feast in front of us.

I was so overwhelmed by the urge to return to Wonderland that I hunted high and low for something else to quench my thirst. Queen of Hearts came to me then, with promises of epicness and gloomy twists, and easily captured my attention.

Hey guys! How are you all doing? I just got back from my spring break, all rested and freshened up. Unfortunately, I did not stick to my plans of being academically productive at all during my 7-day vacation... So I will probably suffer this week. On that note, I recently finished the two seasons of House of Cards and I cannot think of a more legitimate way to spend my free time than watching Frank Underwood play dirty politics. It is a truly amazing drama series and you should all tap into this goldmine right now.

It's thrilling. It's gripping. And most of all, it's different. I may have thrown out the word "unique" way more often than its weight deems, but if I were to pick one book to recognize for such quality, Mind Games would be my choice.

A dark tale of Wizard of Oz? Sign me up! It's definitely an interesting idea to have Dorothy become a evil manipulative overlord who is taking Oz to disparity. I'm very curious to see how Danielle Paige will execute that, though based on the couple of reviews I have seen, she did a fantastic job at it, which just makes me crave for this book even more. Hopefully, Paige also has a great imagination as well as Oz is anything but a dull place.

YES! Another murder mystery :D This makes a really happy Angel waiting for April (and the warmth too, oh god help me). BTW, is it just me or there are a lot of good books coming out in April? Like seriously, my wallet is so gonna take a hit for this......

And believe me when I say it, Susan Ee does not disappoint. World After is yet another YA masterpiece you all ought to appreciate.

Okay, I will admit that Stolen Songbird and I are not love at the first sight. It is only after I read this glowing review by the ladies @ Unladylike Reviews that I started to take an interest in this book. And once I did that, the only thing I wish for now is for April to come faster because this story sounds absolutely AWESOME (Plus, I really like the MCs names...)

I'm surprised at how much I enjoyed reading The Summer I Found You, even though my analytical left brain is yelling furiously at my silly emotional right brain the whole time. It is so contradictory that I find myself bewildered about how I can possibly like it when I see its problems as plain as day. Nevertheless, it is, without a doubt, one of the more delightful reading experiences I have undergone lately and I appreciate this lightening of mood if just for its entertainment value.

I have not read anything Jennifer L. Armentrout before, mostly because her books are almost always paranormal romance which I'm not a huge fan of. Her newest fiction Don't Look Back however is a YA contemporary romance mixed with hints of mystery thriller. That is something I'm very curious about. Since contemporary romance and mystery thriller are genres I would like to explore more in the future, Don't Look Back being a blend of both inevitably ended up on my radar and I certainly do not regret this discovery.

I mean, seriously, who wouldn't love a story using a spaceship as its center stage? Though despite the inspiring originality, Across the Universe failed miserably to capture my attention. Not impressed. That is all I have to say about this book.
