Top Ten Tuesday (2) : Resolutions for 2014 (a blend of bookish goals and others)

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week, a different "top ten" topic will be selected and shared.

This week's Top Ten Tuesday topic is the Top Ten Resolutions for 2014.

I have always liked the idea of making resolutions, to set goals and expectations in a more organized and structural way. However, from my past experience most of my resolutions never got fulfilled or even looked at again after I wrote them down. This year though, I'm hoping things will be different because the whole internet (yes, all of you) is my witness. I will try my best to stick to these goals and reflect on my progress periodically. Wish me luck!

    Bookish Goals

  1. Complete my 2014 Goodreads Reading Challenge.
  2. I pledged to read 60 books for 2014 but I'm hoping to surpass that limit, perhaps 100?
  3. Read new genres/authors.
  4. I want to branch out a little bit and read more science fictions and mystery novels, maybe even historical fictions. I would also like to join a Debut Author Reading Challenge too so I can discover some new favorites :)
  5. Join a local book club or attend some book conferences.
  6. Talking about books with other book lovers is probably one of my favorite things to do. I wish to create more opportunities for myself to do that, such as going to meet ups and other events. Speaking of which, I have been considering to go to BEAs. Maybe not this year, but at some point hopefully.
    Blog Goals

  7. Get new blog designs.
  8. I have been looking into doing a re-skin for Spare Reads. Hopefully it will be soon!
  9. Better post scheduling.
  10. I must say that scheduling posts is the hardest thing I have faced as a blogger. I'm hoping to build a 2-week posting cushion so I don't need to cramp out posts at the last minute. In the meantime, I will also make sure the quality of my posts. In my opinion, it's okay to not post daily as long as the things I do post are interesting and fun!
  11. Increase NetGalley approval ratio.
  12. I love NetGalley! I think it's a great platform for book reviewers and publishers. I want to try to get my NetGalley approval ratio up to 80%-100%. Fingers crossed ;) If time permits, I also want to start building relationships with publishers and authors.
  13. Increase social network presence.
  14. I have yet to build out a Facebook page for Spare Reads. Aside from that, I need to utilize Twitter better to promote reviews and memes as well as sharing my reading status with you.
  15. Meet more fellow bloggers.
  16. I love reading other book review blogs and I'm glad I made friends along the way. I hope to meet more amazing people in 2014.
    Other Stuffs

  17. More traveling which also means more saving.
  18. There are so many places I want to go, both within the U.S. and overseas. Good thing I'm still getting winter and summer breaks :P
  19. Exercise and read daily.
  20. This pretty much goes without saying, but I need to make sure I'm persistent. Can't miss a day!

That's all for me :) What are your resolutions for 2014?

  1. There are a few genres I like and that's pretty much all I read. I rarely step out of my comfort zone, which is something I should probably change soon.
And I have like, 78% feedback to approval ratio on Netgalley and I still manage to get pretty much everything I want so no worries. :) People have like, dozens of books they haven't reviewed there.

Good luck with all your goals!

    1. I think I have a much smaller niche when it comes to genres I read comparing to you :P But yeah, I need to work on that. I wonder what exactly do publishers see on Netgalley. Do they see the total number of books you have requested/reviewed or do they just see a ratio? Either way, I need to catch up on those readings. I think 78% is pretty impressive! I will probably be happy if I have that :D

  2. These are awesome goals! Love it! I was really devastated with my NetGalley ratio...I had it at 100%, but the archived a book (I had reviewed it on my blog!) before it's release date and I didn't get to register it. Devastated. But I'll live I guess. ;) My goal is 100 books, and I've read 2 this year so far as well. I'm a bit miffed by the Goodreads widget this year though. Last year it told you if you were ahead or behind and how many books you needed to read a week. This year it says nothing. I'm just going to go pout... ;)

    1. I think once you click on that View Challenge thing, it will tell you like "Nice start!" and stuff. But yeah, not as convenient as last year. I really hope to complete that challenge, but I will become very busy once break is over :( hopefully I can keep up!
