Waiting on Wednesday (8) : The Winner's Curse (The Winner's Trilogy, #1) by Marie Rutkoski

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Title: The Winner's Curse
Author: Marie Rutkoski
Series: The Winner's Trilogy, #1
Publisher: Farrar Straus Giroux (Macmillan)
Release: March 4th 2014
Pages: 368 (hardcover)
As a general’s daughter in a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers, seventeen-year-old Kestrel has two choices: she can join the military or get married. But Kestrel has other intentions.

One day, she is startled to find a kindred spirit in a young slave up for auction. Arin’s eyes seem to defy everything and everyone. Following her instinct, Kestrel buys him—with unexpected consequences. It’s not long before she has to hide her growing love for Arin.

But he, too, has a secret, and Kestrel quickly learns that the price she paid for a fellow human is much higher than she ever could have imagined.

Set in a richly imagined new world, The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski is a story of deadly games where everything is at stake, and the gamble is whether you will keep your head or lose your heart.

Recently, as you may have noticed too, there are a lot of promotional posts around The Winner's Curse. Upon first look, I was almost instantly drawn to it by the cover - gorgeous model (look at dat dress!!), elegant font style, intriguing title, etc. Everything is utterly perfect and there is only one voice in my head - MUST GET IT (yep, my head is kind of creepy like that...). Jokes aside, I'm indeed very much anticipating the release of this new trilogy. Although the premise involves some sort of "games" again, I'm hopeful that Marie Rutkoski would be able to bring us readers something new and imaginative to love wholeheartedly. By the way, do you know that the first five chapters are free on kindle right now? *wink*wink*

How are you doing this week? Waiting for anything special?

I'm a little bit nervous because of all the hype it's been getting, but this sounds like something I'd love, and I'm glad it sounds like something you'd enjoy as well! Gah...2 more weeks, right? ;)

Thanks for sharing and great choice Angel! :D

  2. These book has been everyone, and everyone seems to be talking about it. While it is on my wishlist and I would pick it up if I had the chance. I would have to agree with you, that it makes me a bit nervous when books have so much hype. I'll have to read the synopsis and the first couple of chapters in store, to see if I'm excited about it, or not.
